The people of Calderdale can be assured that we are making the district a safer place to live and work. 

We have set out plans to prioritise our services in the community over the coming year and we would encourage you to take a look at these plans in detail. 

Calderdale Risk Reduction Plan 2013-14 and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Action Plan for 2013-14

The district team will be focusing its resources on the communities of Brighouse and Elland in preparation for the Integrated Risk Management Plan to merge the two stations at a site in Rastrick. 

Our priorities are as follows: 

  • to deliver a proactive fire prevention and protection programme. Stopping fires before they occur is our first priority. To date, our actions have delivered significant success and we want to build upon this.
  • to deliver a professional and resilient emergency response service
  • to provide a safe, competent and diverse workforce
  • to provide effective and ethical governance and achieve value for money in managing resources.

 

Whats happening in Calderdale district...

Spring Update

Calderdale’s performance figures for 2012/13 are excellent. Community safety initiatives and partnership working have reduced the number of call outs in Calderdale by 26%. Arson incidents have reduced by 50%. Well done to all those concerned.

As the weather starts to improve the number of moorland fires starts to increase. These fires are a burden on our resources so please be careful when enjoying the countryside (see link below).

About this district

Calderdale district covers an area of 140 square miles and has a population of around 200,100.

It contains large areas of open countryside and moorland, as well as several deprived areas. The district has some 4,000 listed buildings and the largest town, Halifax, still retains one of the most complete Victorian landscapes in Britain.

The district provides a water rescue capability where firefighters are specially trained to deal with flooding and rescuing people trapped in water. In addition, there is a wildfire unit with specially trained personnel who can deal with large scale moorland or grass fires.
