Firefighters from across West Yorkshire are currently tackling a large building fire at Canal Mills in Armley, Leeds.

Residents in Armley and Leeds City Centre are advised to keep their doors and windows closed due to the heavy smoke from the fire.

Additionally, the public is urged to avoid the area if possible, due to the large amount of emergency vehicles dealing with the incident.

 

We were called at 08.04 today to reports of a fire at Oatland Towers.

 

We currently have seven crews in attendance plus our aerial ladder from Bradford and our command and welfare units.

 

The top two floors (15 and 16) have been evacuated.

Nine crews are in attendance at a fire at a business premise on Bradford Road in the Otley area, after we were called at 19.30 tonight.

Residents nearby are being asked to keep their doors and windows shut due to a smoke plume.

Operational support crews including an aerial ladder (from Leeds), welfare unit and command unit are also in attendance.

 

UPDATE: 08:00 (12/11/23) Three crews remain at the scene damping down the fire. There is still a large amount of smoke in the area so residents are being asked to continue to keep doors and windows shut.

We are currently in attendance at a large building fire on Colne Vale Road, Huddersfield. 

10 fire engines and other fire support appliances are currently at the scene. There are no persons reported in the building.

Those in the surrounding area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed; due to the smoke. 

Please avoid the area where possible.

 

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We are still in attendance at a wildfire on Marsden Moor which was contained overnight and now measures approximately 200m by 150m. Today firefighters will be damping down hot spots. Crews currently in attendance are Huddersfield, Shipley, Dewsbury and Huslet with wildfire support from Slaithwaite.

Fire crews are in attendance at a building fire at Fernley Green Road, Knottingley.

Building is 100m x 100m in size. 10% involved in fire.

8 fire appliances are at the scene. Using 1 ground monitor and 3 large jets to tackle the fire.

Crews from neighbouring brigades are also in attendance.

 

Ten pumps at Leeds city centre derelict high rise fire. On going incident. Top three floors still alight. Safety cordon in place and surrounding buildings have been evacuated due to potentially unsafe structure of the derelict building. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is working with West Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service. The Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) is also in attendance.
