In pictures: Water Rescue Training Exercise

Mirfield Fire Station organised a water rescue training exercise to simulate two people who had got into difficulty in the River Calder at Ha'ppenny Bridge, Mirfield.

Crews from Mirfield, Skelmanthorpe and specialist water rescue crews from Rastrick participated in the exercise.

The crews who attended first wore dry suits and had a life jacket to undertake a tethered swim to rescue someone who was having difficulty holding on.

The casualty was brought to the safety of the river bank, whilst the water rescue station used an inflatable sledge to rescue the other person who had been swept down stream and was holding onto an old bridge.

Remember, if you see someone in trouble in inland water, make the right call - call 999 and ask for the Fire and Rescue Service.
