Firefighters were called to a building fire at Canal Mills, Armley just after 5am this morning (28 July).

We currently have 12 fire engines and two aerial appliances at this incident.

This is a derelict single storey building - approximately 50m x 50m, 75% involved in fire.

Fire crews are currently using 2 large jets and 2 aerial appliances to tackle the fire.

The incident has been scaled back to 8 fire engines and 2 aerial appliances.

Crews are still on scene. Incident has been scaled back to 6 pumps and 2 aerials.

As of 14:40, just 2 pumps remain at scene.

Incident confirmed closed at 6:05.

Description:

Firefighters from across West Yorkshire are currently tackling a large building fire at Canal Mills in Armley, Leeds.

Residents in Armley and Leeds City Centre are advised to keep their doors and windows closed due to the heavy smoke from the fire.

Additionally, the public is urged to avoid the area if possible, due to the large amount of emergency vehicles dealing with the incident.
