Pontefract Firefighters' Spread Festive Cheer with Community Kitchen Donations

Firefighters from Pontefract’s Blue and Red Watches have joined forces to deliver food and presents to the Pontefract Community Kitchen, thanks to generous contributions from local businesses and their own families.

The Pontefract Community Kitchen, run entirely by dedicated volunteers, provides hot meals, clothing, and essential support to vulnerable individuals, families in need, and rough sleepers across Pontefract and the surrounding areas. Operating solely on donations, the kitchen serves as a vital lifeline for those who need it most.

This heartwarming initiative was sparked just a week ago by Firefighter Robert Green, who was inspired by a social media post. With the support of his watch and Pontefract Red Watch, FF Green turned his idea into action, making an incredible impact in just seven days. Their efforts are a shining example of teamwork and community engagement, demonstrating how small actions can make a significant difference in people’s lives.

Paul Daly, District Commander for Wakefield, expressed his appreciation, saying: "To all involved, please accept my sincere gratitude for putting this together and delivering support to those in our communities who need a little help. Great work."

Paul England, Assistant District Commander for Wakefield, added: "A fantastic achievement in such a short space of time. Your efforts will hopefully brighten someone’s Christmas, which otherwise might not have been so great."

At West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, we are proud to celebrate initiatives like this, highlighting the invaluable role of our firefighters in building safer and stronger communities.

A huge well done to Pontefract Blue and Red Watches – your community spirit truly shines this festive season!
