West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued three top safety tricks to help prevent unnecessary Halloween hazards.
Working with West Yorkshire Police and other partners, the service is campaigning for people to be mindful about keeping themselves and others safe in the build up to Sunday 31 October.
“We want everyone to have a happy Halloween this week, but we’re reminding people how easily fires can start at this fun time of year,” said West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Area Manager for Service Delivery, Scott Donegan.
The service urges people to celebrate safely while:
- Using LED candles in pumpkins to avoid naked flames
- Extinguishing any real candles thoroughly, particularly before bedtime, and not leaving them unattended
- Being careful around flames, especially when wearing Halloween costumes which can easily set alight.
“This is the busiest time of year for the fire service, particularly with bonfire night around the corner,” he added. We know that many people will want to make the most of the celebrations after the restrictions of last year and we encourage everyone to work together to minimise fire risks.”
