Firefighters and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) staff will be out in force at the Calderdale Pride event as it makes a triumphant return this year.

We will be part of the celebrations complete with fire engines and even a stilt walker, as the experience returns to Halifax for the first time after two years.

The last Calderdale Pride was in 2019, but the previous two years were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year’s static, free event, which celebrates diversity across the region, will take place at the Piece Hall on Saturday 3 September, turning the iconic venue all the colours of the rainbow.

Star appearances include Liberty X, Divino De Campo, with the whole shebang being hosted by Dame Shirley Bazzey.

Gill Cockburn, who manages diversity and inclusion for WYFRS said:

“Halifax has a thriving LGBTQIA+ community and the event is always a fantastic display and celebration of diversity and inclusion.

“As a service, we understand the importance of supporting, championing and taking part in events such as this.

“It is a privilege to be able to attend Calderdale Pride and we’re looking forward to the day. All the family can come and meet our fantastic firefighters. So please come and say hello if you see us.”

Alongside a fire engine on display, fire staff will be joined by their resident stilt walking firefighter, plus a stall where they will be offering fire safety advice.

The crews will also be supporting the Fire Fighters Charity, which aims to help all serving and retired members of the UK's fire family to live healthier and happier.

The celebration takes place on Saturday 3rd September at Piece Hall, from 12 midday to 8pm, is free to attend, suitable for all ages and is promoted as an entirely a safe space for all attendees.
